Sinmi Stool Cow Hide.jpg

Front Side Sinmi Stool

In the Yoruba language, Sinmi means to "relax". The stool's rocking design explores themes of comfort and movement as it challenges its sitter to engage, even wrestle with its stability to perch and rock. The original prototype, 2015, was acquired by the Art Institute of Chicago in 2019 as part of the Architecture & Design Gallery. In the tradition of 1930s furniture maker Isokon, Teague uses bentwood in search of inspiration and self-identification as an African-American designer in a predominantly White-dominated design world.
